Paris, FRANCE – Ledger, the world’s leading and most secure platform for digital assets, announced today the Black Hat Conference – the world’s most prestigious security conference in the world – had once again invited multiple Ledger researchers to present their work at the conference later this year.

The annual Black Hat Security Conference, acknowledged throughout the tech and security communities as the most important tech and crypto security conference in the world, announced its list of invited presenters last week. Ledger employees Nicolas Iooss and Karim Abdellatif were both invited to attend the event and share their groundbreaking research with attendees.

This is the fourth year in a row Ledger has been invited to send multiple employees to the conference to present – an honor almost unheard of in the competitive and cutting edge tech and crypto security space.

The Black Hat conference will be held in Las Vegas August 6-11, 2022.

Black Hat applicants submit proposals during the Call for Paper each year, which closed on April 4th, 2022. Finalists were announced last week. Finalists are invited to attend the event and present their work at the world-wide security conference.

“I am gratified that once again Ledger is being recognized as being a company that identifies, hires, prioritizes, supports and rewards the brightest minds in security – it is our highest priority, it is what our customers expect of us, and it is why we continue to be the world leader in securing digital assets, trusted by nearly a quarter of digital assets across the globe,” said

Charles Guillemet, Chief Technology Officer at Ledger. “I am incredibly proud of my colleagues Nicolas and Karim for being chosen for this honor.”

Nicolas Iooss’s research focused on security hardware and software vulnerabilities in laptops, brought about by interactions with Wi-Fi networks. Nicolas’s research shows how difficult it is to ensure the security of any computer using a Wi-Fi network.

“The acceptance of my presentation is a great acknowledgement of my team’s hard work. Being invited to present at one of the most important security events in the world means our work has been recognized on a global stage,” said Nicolas Iooss, security researcher at Ledger.

Karim Abdellatif will present an end-to-end hardware security evaluation of the ESP32-V3 chip, one of the main microcontrollers in one hardware wallet currently on the market. The evaluation includes side-channel and fault injection attacks. Karim’s research shows that collecting data from the power consumption of the chip during the power-up, leads to breaking the security of the chip. The presented attack could potentially impact hundreds of million devices in the market.

“Being on the stage of Black Hat USA will be one of the great highlights of my career. This event gathers the world’s top researchers and hackers under the same roof at the same time. It’s a rewarding end to a serious research project,” said Karim Abdellatif, hardware security expert at Ledger.
